My daughter loves to read so I am always on the look out for new and exciting books for her. So let me introduce to you all some books by Hathi Chiti, with classic Tales of India. The first book is, The Traveller, the Tiger, and the Very Clever Jackal, written by Reshma Sapre, and illustrated by Jessica Lian. This is a classic Indian folk tale told in an exciting and new way with beautiful hand painted illustrations. It is the story of the traveler Raaheeji, who is getting older but not wiser. He chooses not to listen to his wife and wanders deep into the woods. He is threatened by a man-eating tiger and decides to go on an adventure. It is not until Raaheeji meets a very clever jackal who truly changes his fate. This is a great moral story for the young and old alike.
Next is In the Indian Night Sky, written by Reshma Sapre, and illustrated by Jayme Robinson. It won the 2010 Moonbeam Medal for Picture Book – All Ages and 2011 Independent Publisher Book Award for Picture Book – All Ages. The monsoon rain season is coming and everyone is celebrating. Not only are the mortals celebrating but the heavenly bodies too. The Sun, Moon and Wind want to go to the party hosted by Thunder and Lightning. With the helpful guidance from the Northern Star they travel to the party. The only wish for the Northern Star is for Sun, Moon and Wind to bring her back a gift. Sun and Wind get so caught up in the celebration that they forget to bring back a gift for the Northern Star. See what happens to the Sun, Moon and Wind when they return from the celebration. This is a wonderful and clever story adapted from an Indian folk tale with very vibrant illustrations. The story will surely intrigue the imagination of children and adults.

I love books from other cultures. These would be great for use in a kindergarten or elementary school classroom too.
