I cannot stress it enough on how important it is to read to your child at least 20 minutes a day. I believe it will allow them to learn to read and  it gives you both some bonding time together.  Anyway, let’s begin on this exciting book that I want to share with my wonderful readers.  I was given another wonderful opportunity to review this lovely book called “Princess Cupcake Jones Won’t Go To School!” by the author Ylleya Fields, with illustrations by Michael LaDuca.  This is actually the second book in the Cupcake Jones series (see my review of the Princess Cupcake Jones and the Missing Tutu) and my daughter and I just love her books.

We were given another opportunity to review Princess Cupcake Jones Won’t Go To School and both my daughter and I were quite excited to see what Princess Cupcake Jones was up to.  This beautiful illustrated 32 pages book was quite an eye catching book in my opinion.  It will definitely draw any child’s attention immediately and it is also a wonderful story and well written. The main characters in the book are fascinating and captivating as well.  While reading the book I couldn’t stop turning the pages because my daughter wanted to see each page clearly and didn’t want to miss anything on each page.  The story takes place during the end of summer, and it is that time again when all boys and girls need to go back to school. Princess Cupcake Jones unfortunately doesn’t want to return to school.  She gets quite upset and pouts and comes with quite a bit of excuses not to go to school.  On one of her excuses she was pretending to be ill, and of course her concerned mother takes Cupcake Jones to the doctor.  The dear sweet doctor tells Cupcake Jones that she will be taking some medicine and she will also need a shot. With a wonderful surprise, little sweet Cupcake Jones wasn’t ill any longer, she said she was quite well.  She thought by pretending she could stay home but it did not turn out the way she wanted and after all the excuses she Cupcake Jones ended up going to school.  Everything was fine, she met her teacher and made new friends and wasn’t afraid to go to school anymore.  This is a great book and we both enjoyed it a lot.  I can wait until the next book in the series.  Princess Cupcake Jones Won’t Go To School! will be available via their website and also via amazon.

Here is some information about the author: Ylleya Fields has three daughters and a son. While looking for books to read to her eldest daughter (when she was 2), Ylleya was struck by the limited number of titles featuring African American characters. Blending both of her daughter’s images and personalities together, Cupcake Jones was created.  Born in South America, Ylleya currently resides with her family in Cleveland, Ohio.  She enjoys writing and is currently working on new Princess Cupcake Jones stories.

You can visit Princess Cupcake Jones website to see more of her books and other wonderful information.  You can also connect with Princess Cupcake Jones via facebook.  I definitely recommend this book.  Enjoy!

Sincerely,

This looks adorable! I agree that it is one of the most important things you can do as a parent to read to your child. It’s a major thing we have stressed in our house also!

what an adorable book! I agree 20 minutes a day when they are little pays off. Now that the kids are in school, it is a requirement to read 20 min. a night, they are used to it! They don’t think of it as homework, something they always do!

Love Princess Cupcake Jones and how the illustrator incorporates the word love in each pic. It makes for hide and seek fun every time we read it.

As a former educator, I love that you’re stressing the importance of reading at least 20 minutes a day. This seems like a good book to start off the school year. 🙂
