Movie Night: When Calls the Heart & When Calls the Heart – Lost and Found Movie

When Calls the Heart, directed by Michael Landon Jr. is based on the best-selling books by Janette Oke. It tells the story of a young high society teacher receiving her first classroom position in a prairie town on the Western Frontier.  She is determined to prove to her family that she is brave enough to live on her own,  Elizabeth (Poppy Drayton) struggles with her own fears and doubts until she discovers her late Aunt’s diary.  Her aunt (Maggie Grace), also named Elizabeth, had set off on a similar adventure as a teacher into the frontier, where she struggled with prairie life until she eventually met and fell in love with a Royal Canadian Mountie (Stephen Amell).  Reading her aunt’s words, the young Elizabeth decides to put her future in God’s hands and embark on her own adventure where she uses the diary as her guide as well as Edward (Daniel Sharman), another Mountie, sworn to see her arrive.

I love movies that have an old western setting. It always makes me happy to see how people in those times were living and enjoying themselves in their everyday lives.  This movie is about a young beautiful girl named Poppy Drayton, who comes from a wealthy family. She sets out to take a teaching position in the west.  Even though her family disagrees with her going west, she is a strong minded young lady determined to prove them that she can do it.  It is a very positive movie to watch with the family and it sets a good example for everyone.

 When Calls the Heart – Lost and Found, tells the captivating story of Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow), a young teacher accustomed to her high society life, who receives her first classroom assignment in Coal Valley, a small coalmining town where life is simple, but often fraught with challenges. Lori Loughlin plays Abigail Stanton, a wife and mother whose husband, the foreman of the mine, along with a dozen other miners, have just been killed in an explosion.  The newly widowed women find their faith is tested when they must go to work in the mines to keep a roof over their heads. Elizabeth charms most everyone in Coal Valley, except Constable Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing) who believes Thatcher’s wealthy father has doomed the lawman’s career by insisting he be assigned in town to protect the shipping magnate’s daughter. Living in a 19th century coal town, Elizabeth will have to learn the ways of the frontier if she wishes to thrive in the rural west on her own.

This is the second installment in the When Calls the Heart series on the Hallmark Channel. I was really excited to watch the movie and couldn’t wait.  It basically continued when she arrived at Coal Valley to take the teaching job that was offered to her.  Elizabeth finally arrived and noticed that she has a lot of work on her hands. However, she is determined to prove that she is capable of handling life out in the west and to become a great teacher to the children of Coal Valley.  I love how she manages to figure out how to teach the children effectively.  Not only did she have to teach the children but she also had to convince the mother’s of the children that she is capable of teaching the children effectively too.  The mother’s did not have faith in her, so she had to prove to them that she can do the job and I enjoyed seeing her doing a great job and eventually win them over.

One of my favorite part of the movies is the relationship between Elizabeth and Jack Thornton (he is the new town Constable) who actually was sent out to watch over Elizabeth by her father.  They did not start off as great friends, but slowly you can tell that they are intrigued by one another.  As I said before I love watching movies in that time period where the movie takes place.  I love the clothes (just simple elegance).  This is a great family movie and I enjoyed watching it and hopefully you will too.
