My Painted China Cabinet

October 18, 2013

Well I am back, and I decided to show you all what I have been up to. My husband calls me the multi-tasking Momma. As always when I see something I like and it a reasonably priced, I get it while I can and then see what I can do with it.

Since I was in the process of making my dining room look a little presentable, I came across this lovely China cabinet.  It is a very nice looking China cabinet and husband was nice enough to pick it up for me. I left it there for a few weeks or so, and I was just staring at it. Finally, I had the urged to paint it.  However, I already loved how it looked. The only problem is that my dining room area is already dark and placing this China cabinet there, made the walls even darker. So I decided to brighten up the  cabinet by painting a lighter color.

I went and picked up a nice semi gloss gray/light blue color paint and for the inside of the cabinet I got a light yellow color paint. I always prep my furniture by cleaning, sanding, removing knobs, and some painters tape. Make sure you do that out in the garage, otherwise you will have a dusty house. I try to get a good brush to minimize the streaks when brushing. I started with the inside of the cabinet and then I worked my way to the outside. After it was dry I wanted it to look a little antique, so I added a little faux glaze to it and I must say it looked great. I was truly happy with the results.

When everything was done, I was ready to place the knobs and handles back in place and guess who came to help? My sweet William, he was such a good boy helping his mama out. Then it was time to place some my dishes in the cabinet and voila it was done. Now, see the before and after pictures. Mind the wall because we are in the process of painting our home. It sure makes the dining room brighter indeed. My daughter just loves it, and now she is using the dining room to do her homework on a regular basis.

photoNow, get yourself a fresh can of paint and find something in your home that you can repurpose. Believe me, you will see how fun it can be.  With just a little paint, you can give your piece a fresh new look.

Until next time

Sincerely,
