I think everybody should at least get one book for their child for the holidays. Reading each day for at least 20 minutes a day will increase your child’s reading development. I try my best to do that with my son and I keep that tradition every year by getting him some books for the holidays. Here are few that I would love to share with you all.
First we have Jelly Bear Christmas Surprise by Stephanie Stansbie; Illustrated by Anette Heiberg. This book is so colorful and makes me want to smile when I see the cover. My son was literally touching the snowman carrot nose. It is about Jelly Bear and his awesome friends having a wonderful time in winter wonderland. It is a pop-up book which has flaps to lift up. It surely will keep your child focused, engaged and interested at all times. Retails for $5.99.
The second book is The Santa Shimmy, by Christianne C. Jones and llustrated by Emma Randall. Shimmy and shake like Santa in this interactive holiday board book. The rhyming text and energetic art will keep kids (and adults!) moving and laughing in anticipation of the holiday season. I like this board book because it is fun, interactive and makes the little ones want to get up and dance as well. My son just loves Santa dancing. This is a great book for the little ones. Sherlock Holmes, Arsene Lupin, and Irene Adler are in London when they find a strange coded chess problem in the Times written by “The Black Friar.” Well, Sherlock is eager to break the code and solve the mystery. The situation deepens the next day, when the city is floored by the news of a rich merchant being murdered. On the desk of the merchant’s was a scarlet rose: the same flower used by a gang that haunted the streets of London over twenty years ago. Could the Scarlet Rose Gang be back? The forth book is Beauty and the Basement, by Olivia Snowe, and Illustrated by Michelle Lamoreaux. A young man confined to his basement, a broken-down car, and surveillance video footage make up the elements in this 21st-century retelling of the fairy tale Beauty and the Beast. In it Carlo Mostro must force himself to go outside his only comfort zone, the basement. However, is he willing to let Belle assist him? This book is for 8-12 year olds. retails for $8.95.
These are great books for both the little ones and the middle grade readers. Enjoy them and make that special person in your life very happy.
