How to deal with Picky Eaters?

May 17, 2016

Do you have picky eaters in your home?  If you answer yes, then you are at the right place.  I have one picky eater in my house and it can be hard at times to try to figure out what to make for her.  Don’t get me wrong my daughter eats, but just like most kids she loves to eat sweets and we tend to limit her on it.

Her favorite foods that she will always eat would be chicken tenders, chicken nuggets, macaroni and cheese. She eats plenty of fruits, but she is picky as to which ones she will eat.  Yes, she loves mangoes, strawberries, and bananas (when we force her too). She used to eat grapes but stopped. Most of the time though I make all fruit smoothies which she loves. However, I am not sure it if is only my daughter that does this, but when she doesn’t want to eat something she doesn’t like she will take the smallest bite and chew on that piece for a long time.

I remember the last time we took her to the pediatrician. He stated to her that she had to promise him to try and eat one vegetable a day.  I decided to try by giving her salad with cucumbers, celery, shredded carrots, croutons, and even strawberries. To my surprise she ate the whole thing! I decided to make it a little easier on her and each day I make some fruit smoothies for the family and sneak in some carrots, celery, kale and she doesn’t even knows it.  She drinks the whole glass and even asks for seconds.

pancakersThe method that I use is, blend it with one item that they love, whether it is a fruit or vegetable. I let her make her own smoothies by choosing some fruits and vegetables, to make it a fun cooking experience.  I would also read kid friendly books to her  about how healthy it is to eat vegetables and fruits.

My son eats just about everything, so I usually tell her if your brother can eat it, than you can too. She doesn’t want her little brother to win so, she tries to finish her food before he does.  That’s another great way to get my picky eater to eat.

Let me know how you deal with your picky eater.  I would love to know how you deal with this issue.

Until next time!

Sincerely,
