It was such a nice day Sophia and I decided to make some homemade Valentine’s Day cake pops. I am no expert and this would be my first time making them, but I know it will be a lot of fun. So as always we picked up a few things from the store, but for the most part we had everything right at home.

Materials:

Cake Mix (Chocolate)
Frosting (white) Candy Melts (strawberry and light chocolate)
Cake pop sticks
Decorative Sprinkles
Styrofoam ( if you want- I didn’t use it)
Cookie Sheet
Wax Paper

I  baked the cake and let it cool down.  Then I added some homemade frosting to the cake mix and mixed it all together so it could be crumbly.  Before you start with rolling the balls into shape, place the wax paper on top of the cookie sheet. Roll them nicely in a ball shape or you can easily get a small ice-cream scoop to make every cake pop the same size.  I personally did not use it, because Sophia wanted to make her own cake pop ball shape by rolling it with her hands.  After we rolled up all the cake pops, we placed them onto the cookie sheet in the refrigerator for about an hour.

When all done,  go ahead and place the candy melts into a microwavable bowl and heat for 30 seconds, stir and see if the candies are evenly melted. If not, do it again for 30 seconds or less.  You can always follow the instructions on the candy melt package.

Now it is fun time. I did not take all the cake pops out. I did a few at time and left the others in there until I was ready to dip them too.  Sophia dipped them and she had so much fun.  All you do is get your cake pop sticks and dip them a little bit in the candy melts mixture. Next, stick them in one of the cake pop balls. Then dip the entire cake ball in the bowl of melted candy.  Once you have it all covered, tap the excess candy melt off and place it on a wax paper plate or cookie sheet.  Sprinkle some decorative sprinkles over each cake pop before it starts to harden and your done.  Continue the process with the rest of the cake pops.

We had so much fun making them. Be prepared. It can get quite messy, especially when baking with kids.  So have a lot of napkins at hand to wipe those hands off completely.  Not only were the cake pops cute and fun to make, they were also very yummy!
