As we were playing in the backyard at Gigi’s house (grandma), I noticed all the pine cones lying around, and I had a wonderful craft idea. Yes, I have my thinking hat back on. LOL. I thought, we could make some beautiful colorful Sparkly Pine Cone Christmas Ornaments. So, I called my husband to go get a bag, and we loaded up on pine cones. I love pine cones because they always remind me of Christmas and you can make lots of fun stuff with them. Whether it is decorating or placing them on a wreath, they sure look lovely. So here is what you will need:
- Pine Cones
- Glue
- Sequins
- Silver or Gold paint
- String or Yarn
- Scissors
Here is what we did first. We took our pine cones outside and I spray painted the pine cones silver. You could just as easily paint them with a brush, but I found the spray paint works better and faster, or you don’t have to paint them at all. It is all up to you. After the paint has dried completely, take your pine cones and some glue and start to decorate them with the sequins. Glue the sequins all around the pine cone, then set aside to dry. Once the glue is dry, tie some string around the top of the pine cone and make a loop on the other end so you can attach your ornament to the tree. Voila, and now you have made a beautiful, handmade ornament. This is a simple and fun craft, that Sophia had so much fun doing.

Very cute. My mom always loved pine cones and used to collect them to decorate all around the house with – especially around Christmas time. I think she would have loved this idea!

Love it!! We had huge pine trees in our yard growing up and we used to make all kinds of ornaments (and various other things) with the pine cones. This brings back lots of memories! I know your little one will remember this activity for a long time!!
