Holiday Gift Guide: Rubik’s Cube -CLOSED

November 11, 2010

I remember when I was little, we used to play Rubik’s Cube each and everyday. My parents used to mix up the cube, and we had to solve it. They used to time us, to see who could finish it the quickest, and my brother always end up winning. Rubik’s Cube was created in 1974, and has continued to fascinate, bewilder and challenge millions of people. While many have tried to solve the cube, few succeeded. “The new You CAN Do The Rubik’s Cube program is designed to get youth engaged in math and science in a fun way. Lesson plans built around the Cube help kids learn about problem-solving, teamwork, and other math disciplines like area, perimeter, volume, angles, and algorithms.” This program is designed for grades 3-12. My daughter was fascinated in trying to solve the Rubik’s Cube. Even though she only had one row of color in order, she felt so happy and proud of herself that she put some of the colors in order. They also offer lesson plans and a Solution Guide to show you everything you need to solve the Rubik’s Cube. Visit Rubik’s  Cube at YouCanDoTheCube.com to learn more.

Win: One lucky reader will receive a Rubik’s Cube along with a Solution Guide

I learned that it teaches you ‘math disciplines’ which i would have never put together. I was always awful at the rubiks cube. Would love to learn how to do it and share it with my girls!

I learned the following: “Some teachers are even using the Rubik’s Cube to teach life lessons and 21st Century Skills such as focus, following directions, memorization, sequencing, problem solving, critical thinking, and perseverance.”

Thanks for the chance to win! I, too, remember how the Rubik’s cube was the craze in school, and it took some brains to solve it, so when you succeeded, it was like “Woot!” (or whatever we said back then that was the equivalent! LOL!)
