Holiday Gift Guide: Nancy B’s Science Club MoonScope and Activity Journal

Quick questions to ask yourself about your child or even you.  Do you have a child that adores to watch the moon and stars?  Do you love to watch the moon or the stars too?  If you answered both questions “Yes”, then hey you have come to the right place.  I have to admit myself that I do love to watch the moon and stars at night and I also have a very curious daughter that enjoys that as well.

prod5351_1_lgSeveral times a week, my daughter and I get a blanket and place it in the front yard or even in the backyard.  I also tell her to make sure to look out for any frogs since I am not a fan of those amphibians. She always gets a big laugh seeing me flee in fear of frogs.  Once we have made sure there are no frogs insight, we lay down and gaze at the stars.  We try to see if we can count the stars or maybe even see a falling star. She always tells me they are too far to see.  My husband did get an app on his iphone where you can look for the stars but for some reason my daughter wasn’t a big fan of it, she wanted one telescope she can physically touch and see for herself.

So, when I was looking around for a kid friendly telescope I found the Nancy B’s Science Club MoonScope™ and Star Gazer’s Activity Journal by Educational Insights.  It is easy to use and all you do is set it up and take a wonderful amazing night sky tour of the moon and stars.  The telescope includes a journal which is full of fun, engaging activities such as learning about the different lunar phases, writing down what you see and lots more.  What I like the most about this activity is that they learning. Plus, while they are writing the data down they are actually asking you questions or even inviting you as the parent to come and participate.  I enjoyed this very much and she even was showing her little brother to come and see the stars through the MoonScope.  Yes, a teaching moment is very rewarding.  Here is some more information about the Moonscope:

  • A telescope that gives a clear view of the nighttime sky
  • Includes moon filter, two eyepieces (to provide 18x and 90x magnification) and a built-in, pre-aligned finder scope with glow-in-the-dark ring to make it easy to use
  • 22-Page Sky Gazers Journal includes stories about the moon plus fun observation activities
  • Lightweight and easy to assemble
  • LED light preserves night vision, and requires AA batteries, not included

I definitely would recommend Nancy B’s Science Club MoonScope™ and Star Gazer’s Activity Journal for every child who is interested in touring the night sky.  This would make a great holiday gift for that future astronomer.
