Christmas Activity with the kids: Gingerbread House Kit

December 5, 2015

I love this time of year and doing fun and exciting activities with the kids.  Whether it is baking, cooking, crafting, or decorating the Christmas tree, we love staying busy doing family fun stuff. Each year I have a tradition where we pick up a Gingerbread House Kit from the store and put it together as a family.

The Gingerbread House Kit instructions were pretty easy to follow. We ended up taking everything out of the box and laying them on the counter. Both the kids were excited to start, but I wanted to make sure we followed all of the instructions. With the help of daddy, we poured the white icing in the decorating bag and attached the tip to it. We cut the top piece off and set it aside.

gingerbread4We ended up starting with the roof and used one of the stencils with a diamond shape. We gently pressed the white icing over the stencil and took the spatula and spread the icing evenly over the uncovered spaces.  Then it was time to add some of those lovely vibrant colored candies on top of the diamond shapes.  Sophia and William did a great job making the roof beautiful.  They wanted to sort the colors so they could create a pattern, but that ended really quickly when William decided he need a quick break by relaxing on the floor.

gingerbread3Daddy helped to put the side pieces in place while I was pressing the white icing against the front.  The kids were once again adding some more candies and since we were running out of candies from the box we decided to add some of our candies we had on hand.  We placed the roof on top and we  continued decorating the entire Gingerbread House.

gingerbread2I love how the Gingerbread House turned out, and most of all the kids had a blast putting it together.  Take a moment and find some great activities that you can do with your kids, it’s a wonderful moment to bond and the kids will enjoy it too.  Both my husband and I had a great time building the gingerbread house together with the kids.

Let me know what Christmas Activity you will be doing with your kids. I would love to hear your favorite Christmas activities.  Enjoy and Happy Holidays!

Sincerely,

I agree, it is always fun to do any craft activities during the holidays with the kids. I usually make Gingerbread cookies with them and they will decorate their own Gingerbread boy or girl. They enjoy it very much. Your kids look like they are having fun decorating the house.

Your kids did a beautiful job and they were really concentrating on the decor- Nice! In our home we make our own foam ornaments- they decorate it just they way they want and we attach it on to the tree . I tell them not to forget the year. It is really fun to look back at the previous years what they made.

I did the Gingerbread house as well and I always add extra candy just like you did. Love your how the Gingerbread house looks. The kids did a fantastic job! We make our own Christmas stockings out of felt which we decorate. My kids keep on reminding me when they will start making them. It is a nice craft activity and we sit at the table and drink hot chocolate. Really nice and we all enjoy a lot.

We also get the Gingerbread House kit but we also need extra candy because the kids end up wasting half of the candy. It is just fun to do as a family. Nice job on the Gingerbread house. Is that lollipops in the front? Great idea.

The gingerbread House looks so beautiful with all the bright colors. They did a great job. We make homemade Christmas cards and we also give them to their teachers. It is fun and doesn’t cost a lot to make.

It turned out very nice! Enjoy all your craft activities. I am not sure if you know about this, but we get these clear ornaments & fill it with glitters, craft sequins and other stuff. It is kind of messy but fun.
