DIY: Cupcake Fleece No-Sew Blanket

January 11, 2011

After getting back to my regular schedule, I decided to make and share another craft project with my wonderful readers. Since, it has been getting colder and colder lately, I thought, what could be better than to make a fun, no-sew fleece blanket for the little one. This way she can participate in making her own blanket as well. Now, let’s begin our fun project.

Supplies:

  • Print  Fleece fabric (any print you desire- I used 1 yard)
  • Solid Fleece fabric (coordinate with the print fabric-I used 1 yard)
  • Scissors
  • Measuring tape
  • Pins

Place both the print and solid fleece fabric on the wrong side on top of one another. Line them up perfectly and trim the edges if needed. I had my little helper with me, and she was measuring everything. I love all the help I can get. Teamwork always works best, I always say. LOL

Next cut out a 4″ square shape from each corner of the fleece fabrics. Once you have done that, your are now ready to start cutting some strips. These strips will be 1″ wide  and 4 ” deep. Make sure you start cutting a lot of strips all around the 4 sides of the blanket. Remember, you will be cutting through both the print and solid fleece fabric.

Now, the real fun begins after you have created the fringe. Start tying all four sides of strips into double knots. With the help of my sweetie pie, we tied the entire blanket and it looked beautiful.

Sophia sure loves her Cupcake Fleece No-Sew Blanket and was even laying on it. She was ready to be wrapped-up in it to keep her warm and cozy.

Not only did she choose her own fleece fabric, but she also helped making it. This is definitely a great project for any child to enjoy and they sure will treasure it because they made it themselves. This can also be made and given as a gift to that special person in your life, whether for a birthday, baby shower, Valentine’s gift, you know that they surely will love it.  Make this a fun project where everyone can participate and have fun. Enjoy

Sincerely,

Show Me Mama

I love these blankets so much and have been wanting to make one for each of us. I just wish I had the time and patience to actually get it done lol since my daughter is only 10months old I can just imagine what kind of “help” she would be lol. Thanks for sharing how to do this though, at least now I know how for when I find the time!

Thanks for following me! We love these blankets too! I worked with my girl this year to applique on one for her brother… not really “no-sew” but it made plain remnant fleece into a cute Chrismtas gift.

I wish my MIL had read this post before giving my kids blankets like this for Christmas. She tied the blankets together (no knot) so when I washed them they came apart! I guess I should have double checked them before putting them in the wash. Thanks for the follow at realityasamom.blogspot.com.

    • Reply showmemama January 15, 2011 at 2:27 pm

Yes, it is better when you tie the strips with a double knot. This keeps the strips together while washing the blanket. Thanks for sharing your comment. Have a great day.
